55+ BC Games Week Experience

Calendar of Events

Attending the 55+ BC Games is more than just competing in your sport.  You become part of a community of participants.  Throughout Games Week there are a number of events that will give you the true “Multi-Sport Games Experience”.  The following events are cornerstone to the 55+ BC Games experience. The BC Seniors Games Society Board of Directors set the days and times for most of these events, the Host Society in the Host Community determines the location, content, format and finer details for each event.

Accreditation

Participant Accreditation opens on Tuesday and closes on Wednesday during Games week. All registered participants are required to attend the Accreditation Centre to pick up their participant accreditation badge and package the day before competition in their sport begins. Participants are required to check in with their respective zone tables first and then attend their sport tables. All participants are required to have a participant accreditation badge in order to compete.

Accreditation for the Kelowna 2019 55+ BC Games will be held at the Capital News Centre located at 4105 Gordon Drive.  The hours will be Tuesday, September 10th from 2 pm to 8 pm and Wednesday, September 11th from 12 noon to 5 pm.

Games Village

The Games Village opens on Tuesday and closes on Wednesday during Games week and is usually located in close proximity to the Accreditation Centre.  The Games Village is designed to showcase the Host Community with activities and local vendors.  It’s your introduction to the Host Community and all it has to offer.  Come enjoy the sights and sounds.

The Games Village for the Kelowna 2019 55+ BC Games will be held at the Capital News Centre located at 4105 Gordon Drive on Tuesday, September 10th and Wednesday, September 11th.  Hours TBD.

Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony and parade of participants is held on Wednesday evening during the Games at 7:00 pm.  The ceremony has traditional elements of a multi-sport Games and the Host Community will add their own particular flair with local entertainment.  A highlight is the parade of participants marching into the event in their team uniforms.  The evening culminates with the official opening of the Games and lighting of the Torch.

The Opening Ceremony for the Kelowna 2019 55+ BC Games will be held at the Prospera Place located at 1223 Water Street on Wednesday, September 11th at 7:00 pm.

Competition

Depending on the sport, competition start on Wednesday or Thursday and runs for 2, 3 or 4 days.  Get the most of your experience at the Games, cheer on the competitors at another sport!

Participant Special Events

See more of what the local region has to offer.  It’s time to kick up your heels and enjoy the 55+ BC Games experience.  Registered participants and supporters are permitted to attend these events as long as they have an Accreditation badge:

  • Thursday night event – takes place on Thursday during the late afternoon to early evening and finishes in time for the BC Senior Games Society Annual General meeting for all members which takes place at 7 pm.
  • Friday night dance – takes place on Friday night during the Games at 7:00 pm.

Closing Ceremony

All good things must come to an end.
The Closing Ceremony takes place on Saturday afternoon at the end of the Games at 1:30 pm.

The Kelowna 2019 55+ BC Games Closing Ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 14th at the Rotary Centre for the Arts located at 421 Cawston Avenue.
